There have been leaks which were made almost certainly with malicious intent. But that could backfire. If Labour’s manifesto signals a break with politics as currently practiced and points the country on a truly new course then the possibilities are vast. That is not to say that those possibilities can all be realised in a few weeks but if recent decades have taught us anything they have shown that politics can be a very unpredictable business. So there is everything to play for.
For us in Hounslow the immediate task is to get the Labour candidates Seema Malhotra and Ruth Cadbury re-elected. The Brentford and Isleworth CLP has a well organised operation with organisers in every ward. What they need is helping hands for canvassing and delivering election materials. Contact details for the organisers can be obtained from the CLP full-time organiser Jack Price. There will also be plenty of things to be done at the Brentford & Isleworth HQ (367 Chiswick High Road, telephone 020 8995 7289), stuffing envelopes, telephone canvassing and no doubt much else besides.
This is no time to stand on the sidelines. It is your physical presence that is required to help do what must be done in an election period. It won’t happen by itself. Please if you have any time that you can give to this remember that B&I is a marginal constituency. Retaining it for Labour depends on all of use. Please get stuck in.
